You've seen Amanda King's By the Horns photographs in large format prints, but they look so dramatic in albums too! This is a 15x12 vertical Q-Book Medium with offset printing on Tintoretto to give that textured, watercolour look.  The creamy, 'Eggshell' cover is a vegan-friendly micro leather, appropriate considering the subject matter. ( Amanda, who's based in Canterbury, New Zealand, says anybody who knows her will tell you of her love for animals. "If only I could keep them all as pets.") Don't you love the ENTER PROMO CODE box when you're shopping online? Everyone loves a bargain! Workspace coupons allow you to offer discounts in your shopping cart … but why give money away? A few suggestions to think about: – Offer free shipping or a discount if clients spend over a certain amount.  – Throw in something extra. Something that doesn't cost you much time or money, that adds value to their experience without reducing yours! - Offer package deals — maybe digital files with their studio box, or a set of canvases from their To View More >>

We’ve introduced a new way for your clients to order a Q-Box. As a photographer you can order wholesale, provided you have an approved account. These notes are to help you sell Q-Boxes in your own shopping cart, at your own prices. Step 1 - Favourite the images: In your client's gallery, they can click the Workspace Heart to select the images they wish to include in their Q-Box. (For more on how to favourite images, click here.) And not to worry, they can add / remove / edit images later, in the shopping cart, if they change their minds. The other day I proposed a way to encourage enquirers to look past your prices and make personal contact. It was partly a way to start identifying people who should be your clients, and withdrawing (politely) from those who probably shouldn't. You need to demonstrate to the first group why you’re the right photographer to spend their wedding day with! The 3% rule The 3% rule is our way of saying that you can't succeed by trying to appeal to everyone, and you definitely shouldn't try. It stems from the time, years ago, when we tried to estimate the number of professional photographers in the To View More >>

Colour management is one of the cornerstones of digital photography, it is also one of the most misunderstood. Some photographers are experts, some try to ignore the subject, some don't seem to have heard of it, others have read about it on forums or blogs and (kind of) get it. Years ago when our lab went digital, we brought in the experts to help set up our systems and get the best results from our printers. This relationship was not a one-date wonder. Ian and Jessica from NZ Colour Management have consulted to us regularly ever since. One thing's certain. If you use our print-ready service you To View More >>

Jasmine Star had some advice for newbie photographers a few days ago. It was a good reality check, but it left an important question unasked. Basically she says: • It doesn't matter how good you think your photography is (or the guy's down the road), it's what the customer thinks. • It doesn't matter whether you think you're "worth" what you want to charge, it's what the customer thinks. • It doesn't matter whether you're entitled to charge what you're "worth", it's what the customer thinks. The takeaway? You're better off taking what you can, and getting some runs on the board. (Jasmine To View More >>

We were delighted when Donal Doherty recently shared these beautiful pictures on his blog. (Full post here) Donal designed this 14x10 classic matted album for his clients Karen and Gary. They chose an embossed onyx micro leather cover with a page mount style inside, designed with black borders under a hand cut ivory mat. Karen and Gary also ordered two parent albums as well, which are smaller, digital copies of the main album. We love the results! Thanks for sharing your beautiful work with us Donal :) To View More >>
